GOBBLE GOBBLE, TOIL AND... TROBBLE?

Happy Autumn to my Northern Hemisphere babies. Happy Spring Break to my puppies and kittens on the other side of the equator!

Check your latitude at the door, Thor. It's not where you are, it's where you're at!

A couple of big surprises in the works, but I won't lay them on you until I'm 101% sure of the calendrical logistics.

What I can tell is you that I've been to cast/crew screenings of both Muttnik and The Lost Children and things are looking good, babies!

Okay, enough about me. Here's your monthly newsletter about me:

And stay tuned, my babies, stay so very, very tuned!

OCTober? It's more like FUNtober! (sorry)

Hello, my babies. No matter how you spell it, your humble Man Of Hazardium has whipped up another mighty mester of mechanical metal munching mayhem. Suddenly I'm channeling Stan Lee and Jay Ward.

I actually got one or two extra gigs after I perfectly lined up all the type in the newsletter, so check the schedule here on the website.

We've got both kinds of news... words AND pictures:

Crikey, now I'm channeling J. Jonah Jameson.

Stay tuned, my babies. Stay so very, very tuned.

A big thanks to everyone in the sold out crowd at the Cornelia Street Cafe last Wednesday night.

It couldn't have been a better show!

Special thanks to my wonderful co-performer Kyra Miller, our amazing pianist Laura Brenneman, Storytelling Festival Producer Sherry Weaver and the Cornelia Street Cafe.

And now, my babies, you've been very patient. Here's your latest newsletter: click here

August Of Cool Air...

Greetings from the Lake Ontario Playhouse in Sackets Harbor, NY, my babies. An appropriate platform to announce a VERY theatrical month.

First, I will be performing in the staged reading of 'Birth Of Venus', written by Lisa Myers and directed by Noel Neeb, at The Manhattan Theater Club Studio Space on August 16th. I will break protocol this month and send another communique in a week or two with more details, okay?

And, as many of you know...

I am privileged to be performing on the last night of the Cornelia Street Cafe's Summer Storytelling Festival on Wednesday, August 25th!

This is a big one for me, my babies. It's my first one person show in NYC. I'm sharing the evening with Kyra Miller and the show starts promptly at 6pm.

If you are familiar with the intimate milieu at Cornelia Street, you know that reservations are highly recommended.

My show, Route 16, will feature stories from my youth, and songs that I wrote back then that have strangely, as time goes by, survived to have even more meaning now.

For more details and, as always, here is your monthly newsletter:

gawd....

I now have a Twitter account. It's the 7th sign of the Apocalypse.

I only got it because it's a requirement to join this thing called WitStream. Comedysmack.com picks a poster everyday from WitStream.

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow.
I don't know how she swallowed a cow.
She swallowed the cow to catch the dog.
She swallowed the dog, to catch the cat.
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird.
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly
I guess she'll die.

Such a slippery slope

Anyway... it's ManOfHazardium if you are so inclined.

Stay tuned, my babies.

SEEING INTO THE FUTURE (well... February)

Greetings, my babies!

First of all, there's no other way to say it... yer 'umble Man of Hazardium had an absolute blast performing with Peter Aguero and The BTK Band. I'm gonna be back with them March 8th! Don't worry, I WILL remind you.

In the mean time, I am totally gearing up for two of NYC's best storytelling shows, followed by a return to Canada.

Tuesday, February 2nd, will bring us to Sherry Weaver's SPEAKEASY STORIES. Sherry is winding down this amazing series and I am honored to be one of the last to share her stage before she pulls the plug in March.

That very Saturday, February 6th, will be the time and place for Andy Christie's THE LIAR SHOW. I will be in the fine company of

DAVID ELLIS DICKERSON - NPR's This American Life; House Of Cards
SHERRI ELDIN - Osbournes: Reloaded
ROB GORDON - The Rob And Mark Show
Host: ANDY CHRISTIE N.Y. Times; NPR

so don't make me come to your house and getcha, 'cause I will.

PLUS, both these shows take place at The Cornelia Street Cafe, in the West Village in NYC (I think you can figure out what street).

Speakeasy: 8:30pm
Liar Show: 6pm.

After that, pack yer Snuggies and yer toques, babies, because I'm heading North to spend Lincoln's Birthday at the Laugh Shop in Calgary! February 11-13, if you're a stickler for details.

AND...

A re-reminder (don't worry, there'll be more) that 'Untied', with DJ Hazard, Nat Sylva, Amber Daniels and Bianca Cipola and directed by Adam Woodworth, premieres at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, MA, this February 28th at noon! Doors open at 11:30! Free admission. Catch it before it goes all over the place on the film fest circuit.

Adam even made a Facebook Page for the film.

2010-01-12 - 11:22 a.m.
Two awesome things to see, my babies... one in the comfort of your home... one you'll have to put pants on and come on out.

Award winning Director Adam Woodworth (Bourbon) just announced the screening date for his latest film,Untied, starring yer 'umble Man of Hazardium and Nat Sylva .

It's gonna be Sunday, February 28th, at the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Noon! Doors open at 11:45! and...

It's FREE! Thanks, Adam. The only thing I hate more than watching myself is paying to watch myself :)

I'll be there for the Q&A afterwards. Don't make me look around for you and cry when you're not there.

And... If you didn't check it out yet, my babies, I was privileged to be part of H.R. Britton's last Lower East Side Stories at the Tenement Museum on December 17th. The show was taped by THIRTEEN for their website. Check it out!

We're here for two more nights, then I take on (or resume) some great projects this month.

Adam Woodworth's Untied is reported to be all finished! Look soon for an announcement for a screening in February!

Bill Szarka's Muttnik is getting it's finishing touches with sound and color and music... stay tuned for more Muttnik updates.

Ongoing work with Mark Harris' The Lost Children is... well, it's ongoing (and creepier as each day goes by).

AND my long awaited chance to work with the incredible BTK Band is coming up in a matter of days, my babies! Tuesday, January 11th at Under St. Marks. Be there!

This past December 16th, I was privileged to be part of H.R. Britton's last Lower East Side Stories at the Tenement Museum. It was videotaped by THIRTEEN for their website. Check it out HERE!

Also, me and The Mark Riccadonna type person are also gonna be returning to Wisecrackers in State College, PA on Janaury 15th and 16th, so start packing and stay so very, very tuned.

IN THE MEAN TIME...

Monstrous work is being done behind the scenes as pre-production for Mark Harris’ ‘The Lost Children’ churns away into the wee hours of every night that you peacefully sleep.

There’s this vague urban legend that L. Ron Hubbard (speaking with either Gore Vidal, Kurt Vonnegut or who ever you heard in your version) said that he was going to create an entire religion on a dare.

Well...

If you haven’t checked it out yet, this is as good a time as any to get up to speed with us by viewing ‘Evie’, Mark’s short ‘prequel’ (as I call it) to ‘The Lost Children’:

Evie

Then, after you have been sufficiently and wonderfully disturbed by ‘Evie’, prepare to have your socks rocked with the entire cult we are creating for our characters to live in:

The Lost Children

You’re gonna need to come back to Earth after that, my babies, and we’ve got just the thing.

Next week, we are gearing up for another great New York Underground Comedy Festival, this year quite cosmically headquartered at the Underground Lounge on NYC’s Upper West Side.

Join yer ‘umble Man of Hazardium, co-producer and good buddy Mark Riccadonna for two great nights of comedians shaking off their usual material and letting go with a couple of great nights of storytelling:

HAPPY JULY, MY BABIES

It looks like a quiet month for your humble Man Of Hazardium, but looks can be deceiving!

Technically, so far, all I have on tap this month is next Saturday at the Comedy Lounge in Hyannis and my July installment of TAKING CHANCES at the Belleville Bistro in Park Slope.

Add to that, however, a pre-production meeting for Mark Harris’ ‘Lost Children’ and a full week of principle shooting (July 19-25) in Massachusetts for Adam Woodworth’s ‘Untied’ and we have a pretty decent sked on our hands, missy.

We are also working on August/September shooting dates for the full version of Bill Szarka’s ‘Muttnik’. The short has been wrapped and edited and is now being shown to investors. I hear it came out great and I’m looking forward to a screening with Bill and the gang soon.

Have a great 4th, babies, and stay so very, very tuned.

2009-06-08 - 11:08 a.m.
Happy June, My Babies!

A mega busy first week! Got back from Atlanta Monday afternoon, after driving for 15 hours, chilled and napped and took off for Boston to shoot parts of Adam Woodorth's next gangster short film, 'Untied'.

THEN I spent the weekend in Upstate NY shooting the first 2 of 3 days shooting Bill Szarka's short film, 'Muttnik'!

Another installment of Taking Chances/Square Care is coming up next week! Please read about it below:

Thursday! Taking Chances! Square Care!

Taking Chances: Comedians telling stories. Storytellers singing songs. Cats marrying dogs. It's the end of the world hosted by DJ Hazard

Special guests this Thursday, June 18th:

Sue Dan Allen
Dan Cartwright
Rob Gorden
Arthyr Carlson
Mark Riccadonna

Belleville Bistro (back room, separate entrance on side) 5th and 5th Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC, R train to 9th (and 4th Aveue) and do the math from there.

7:30 show $8 cover.

SQUARE CARE

It doesn’t matter how you feel about the war.

It doesn’t matter how you feel about religion.

It doesn’t matter if your girlfriend wants to know if these jeans make her look fat.

None of these discussions usually lead to anything good.

However, the bottom line is that thousands and thousands of sons and daughters, fathers and mothers are far away in a lonely and dangerous place. That’s why I am starting something I call ‘Square Care’.

Next Thursday (June 18th) will be the second installment of my new show in Park Slope.

Sherry Weaver, who got us the venue (different type of show on different Thursdays of the month, Taking Chances will be every third Thursday), has suggested the $8 cover for all the shows, just to keep it less confusing.

Sherry has always offered comps to people who are unemployed or otherwise going through a difficult financial period.

I would like to take this up a notch. I will be regularly sending boxes of useful (or just thoughtful) items over to the Middle East on a regular basis.

You get free admission for one at Taking Chances with every used (but in good condition) CD, DVD, book or even some goodies that will make the trip.

In addition, my current CD, Man Of Hazardium, is currently on sale at CD Baby and other sites for $14.95.

http://cdbaby.com/cd/djhazard

At all my live shows, I will be selling it for $20, with half of each sale going to postage, packaging, sundries, new underwear... whatever I hear they need.

You’ll feel good because you’re doing something good. I’ll feel good because you have one of my CDs. But both those good feelings combined can’t compare to getting a package from home.

The online thing doesn't apply to this, okay?

Okay.

Be there this Thursday, my babies! Or pick up a CD at my next show.

Thank you and stay so very, very tuned.

May Spam Of Love...

A super happy May, my babies...

Yer ‘umble Man of Hazardium has been no slouch, whipping up new things for you and kicking the butt of reality and taking names. So far, the only name I got is ‘Reality’ and I think he’s taken a restraining order out on me.

Jack Daniel Stanley’s ‘Cold Calls’ (starring Open Water’s Blanchard Ryan, Cash Cab’s Ben Bailey and yours truly) did indeed make it to the final five of Delta Airline’s Tribeca Film Fest Finals, but did not get the gold (this time!). Hats off to winning film Eight Percent. Hats off to all five entries, as we all were selected from 2700 submissions. There will be more film fests for Cold Calls... and there will be more news, my babies.

I gots me a show! Every third Thursday of every month (I hope) I will be helming

Taking Chances: Comedians telling stories. Storytellers singing songs. Cats marrying dogs. It's the end of the world hosted by DJ Hazard

Belleville Bistro (back room, separate entrance on side) 5th and 5th park slope R train to 9th (and 4th Aveue) and do the math from there.

7:30 show $10 cover.

This month (May 21st): Mark Riccadonna, RG Daniels, Dan Curry and Brad Lawrence!

I’m also filling in the blanks of this month shooting the trailer for ‘Stray Animals’. We shoot the trailer, then shoot the film. Why not? I’m also gearing up for shooting Adam Woodworth’s (the award winning ‘Boubon’) next gangster short, ‘Untied’, as well as getting ready for Mark Harris’ web/short/feature epic ‘Lost Children’. I’m hitting the gym everyday, my babies.

Other points of mention are my return to John Morrison’s super cool show, Morrison Motel at the Cornelia Street Café, Brian Longwell’s and Julie Perkins new show at the Creek in Long Island City and my first trip to the super hip Laughing Skull Lounge at the Vortex in Atlanta.

Here’s what the sked looks like:

May

2 Private Show

10 The Creek, LIC, NY

12 Morrison Motel (@ Cornelia Street Cafe), NYC, NY

13 Turning Stone Casino, NY

15-16 Lake Ontario Playhouse, Sackets Harbor, NY

21 Belleville Bistro, Brooklyn, NYC

28-31 The Vortex (Midtown), Atlanta, GA

More Vegas! Less Taxes!

Greetings, my babies!

I'm back from Sin City and (ironically) back from sitting down with my accountant and I'm happy to report that yer 'umble Leader is free to conduct himself in public for yet another solar cycle.

Shouts out to my buddies Brian McKim and Traci Skene (who are also the editors, don't you know, of sheckymagazine.com) and Hasan Minhaj for putting up with me all week.

2009-03-13 - 10:37 a.m.
Vote! Movie! Good! Arrrghhh!

As some as you may know, the (already) award winning film that I'm in, Cold Calls, has been part of an in-flight competition on Delta Airlines.

Now, my grounded non-flying or non-Delta babies, you too have a chance to send us to the Tribeca Film fest. We're up against four other great films, including an ADORABLE animation that's kicking ass wherever it goes.

Please check us out and do whatcha gotta do

Grazi! (That's European, just in case we get Cannes, too)

Write Time, Write Place...

Hi, my babies...

I''ve been writing up a storm over at examiner.com

Maybe I should be writing for the Weather Channel (Ha! You can use that if you want).

If you haven't been looking in on my scribblings, please take a moment or two... or three (some are longer than others):

Man of means by no means

Some fear, no loathing- the Vegas to LA run

You ought to be in pictures

A love letter to my car

Vegas, baby

Leave the driving to anybody but me

Urban death marching

Everything I need to know I learned in motel rooms

Extreme beaching

Hello, my babies,

My first piece up on examiner.com just came out. Please take a nanosecond to click and look. I'd love if you'd read it, too. But, for crying out loud, at least gimme a hit. C'mon. I wanna have class. I wanna be a contender.

Joint Custody, Boston Style...

Saturday:

Mottley's Comedy Club

Secret Things And Things Not So Secret

Happy February my babies! I'm laying low for the rest of this weekend. If you see me wandering around town talking to myself, that's because I'm cramming dialogue for one of those mock trials that actors do.

After that, it's cleanse the hard head drive and hardily head on down Tuesday night to Cornelia Street Cafe where I'm honored to be part of another installment of Morrison Motel:

JOHN MORRISON hosts TODD BARRY, LEO ALLEN, LEE CAMP, DJ HAZARD, MAMA SPELL and MIKE LAWRENCE at MORRISON MOTEL, FEB. 1Oth at 8:30PM.

Morrison Motel at Cornelia Street Café – 29 Cornelia Street bet. Bleecker & W. 4th. A,C,E,B,D,F,V trains to W. 4th St. – 1 train to Christopher St.

Tuesday, Feb. 10th at 8:30PM – $5 cover $7 drink min. (212) 989-9319 to RSVP

After that, it's back to method memorization madness as I begin taping of a hush-hush webisodic project (all together now... shhhhh) in mid-week.

And for dessert, I'm off to Wise Crackers in good old Scranton, PA that Friday and Saturday.

Stay tuned, my babies. Maybe we'll get some of that TARP bailout money if we blow our bank accounts and put 'Inc.' after our names.

2009-01-23 - 11:49 a.m.
Happy January 23, my babies!

That's right! It's 1! 2! 3!

IT'S HERE, MY BABIES!

Yer 'umble leader's long awaited third and most industrious CD project, MAN OF HAZARDIUM is now available at CD Baby!

Click on the thingy below and be taken to where you can get your very own!

DJ HAZARD: Man Of Hazardium

“His warped sensibilities offer a platform from which he often teaches his audience how to wreak playful havoc on their neighbors, while his gleefully perverse folk-song parodies ultimately sound more immediate and truthful than the classics they skew.”

-Andrew Singer, theapiary.org

“One of the best things about working the comedy beat is that people send you great stuff to listen to before anyone else gets to hear it. Today I was happy to find Boston legend DJ Hazard’s new album Man of Hazardium, which comes out sometime next month, in my box.
In just over an hour, Hazard covers material from the last twenty years, including tracks from his impossible to find 1993 album Lock Up the Planet When You Leave and last year’s El Hazardo Rides Again, which Hazard sold only at his shows. He reports the recordings were made “pretty much all over North America,” and spans “from 1988 to just a few months ago.”
A sampling of the tracks – the off-kilter song “Music (Is Like a Woman),” which is one of my favorites, “The Ding Ho Song” from the Boston Comedy documentary When Stand Up Stood Out, the Bruce Springsteen parody “Bruce,” and the crowd favorite “Untie My Ankles,” which is sung to the tune of Juice Newton’s “Angel of the Morning.” Die-hard Hazard fans may recognize the cover art from FUEL TV’s American Misfits.”

-Nick Zaino, bostoncomedy.blogspot.com
